About the volunteering opportunity

People with dementia benefit greatly from quiet, manageable outdoor spaces where they can move around safely and experience nature. At the DRK Heinrich-Warnecke-Haus, the garden was redesigned last year specifically for residents with dementia. Now it just needs the finishing touches: With your support in completing and maintaining the garden, it will become a true haven for the people who live there.

Your Tasks
- You're pouring concrete for the support structure of two shade sails so that the residents can soon sit in the shade.
- You’ll trim the shrubs to keep the garden looking neat and inviting.
- You’ll pull weeds from the flower beds and spread bark mulch so the beds look well-maintained and require less upkeep.
- You’ll plant the raised beds with seasonal flowers, adding color and life to the garden.
- You’ll dethatch the lawn to keep the grass healthy and promote good growth.
- You’ll paint the pergola, giving it a fresh coat of paint.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, basic German skills are required.
You enjoy gardening and like to pitch in. Manual dexterity is a plus, but not a requirement.
What to bring
Please bring sturdy, closed-toe, weather-resistant footwear, durable work clothes, and work gloves. There are plenty of gardening tools available on site.
We’ll provide drinks, a group barbecue for lunch, and coffee and cake in the afternoon.
