About the volunteering opportunity
Preliminary Information: This initiative was booked exclusively by a Volkswagen team using Volkswagen’s “Gemeinsam Engagiert” team event fund as part of the Role Model Program. For this reason, it is protected by a project code. If you’re also interested in a team event, you can find all the information here.
For the past two years, BUND has been running a wild perennial project. The goal is to help interested individuals grow and plant native wild perennials from regional seeds on their own. Unlike many ornamental plants advertised as “bee-friendly,” native wild perennials actually provide food and habitat for endangered wild bees, butterflies, and other insects.
As a next step, a permanent wild perennial bed will be created in the orchard meadow at the Waldhaus. It will provide insects with a species-rich habitat in the middle of the meadow and serve as a demonstration site at the same time. Visitors can see firsthand how a near-natural wild perennial bed is designed and how it contributes to promoting biodiversity.

Your Tasks
On this day, we’ll work together to create the garden bed from scratch. Under the guidance of BUND staff, you’ll take on the following tasks:
- Preparing the flower bed: Marking out the area, removing the topsoil, loosening the soil, and preparing it for planting.
- Planting native wild perennials: Plant the pre-grown native wild perennials, water them, and finish the flower bed properly.
BUND staff will supervise the work on site, explain the unique characteristics of the native wild perennials, and provide practical guidance on creating the flower bed.

We’ll provide rubber boots in various sizes, work gloves, and the necessary tools if you don’t have your own.
Food will also be provided during the event and at the end. If you have any allergies or follow a specific diet (vegetarian/vegan), please let us know in advance.
