About the volunteering opportunity
The Great Moor is to be renaturalized after peat extraction (extraction of peat from moors).
A number of maintenance measures are required to curb the uncontrolled growth of trees and shrubs. The resulting green cuttings will be put to good use to create new habitats and valuable habitats for insects, amphibians and birds.

Your Tasks
Under the expert guidance of the Moor Railway staff, the work is carried out - such as clearing and cutting woody plants - to create an area free of vegetation.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, basic German skills are required.
No special requirements are necessary.
What to bring
Please bring weatherproof clothing and shoes, as well as work gloves . Sneakers are not suitable. Possibly protection against wetness and rain (bring wellies if possible).
It would be great if you could bring a pair of pruning shears or hand shears for the day. However, this is not a prerequisite for your participation. We will contact you again in good time before the event and ask if you could bring the tools mentioned.
We will take care of your catering: drinks will be provided on site and, depending on the weather, we will barbecue together or provide another hot meal.

As we are in a peaty area in the moor, there may be encounters with insects.

The association combines nature, culture and environmental education and brings the history and ecological significance of the Great Moor to life. With guided tours, information boards and projects, it promotes awareness of sustainable nature conservation and regional culture.
