About the volunteering opportunity
Preliminary Information: This event was booked exclusively by a Volkswagen team using Volkswagen’s “Gemeinsam Engagiert” team event fund as part of the Role Model Program. The Kinderwald is located in the northwest of Hanover, near the Mecklenheider Forest. There, children can run around to their hearts’ content, wade through water, and get really dirty. As little builders, they can create willow villages, forest sofas, and bridges; plant trees and shrubs; and design signposts.
The 7-hectare Kinderwald site needs special care before winter so that it remains safe and usable even during the cold season. In the fall, the area will be winterized: willow structures will be pruned, individual trees will be cut down, and blackberries and invasive non-native plants will be removed. With your help, the area will remain a safe place for children to experience nature next year as well.

Your Tasks
- You prune the willow structures so they can survive the winter and sprout again in the spring.
- You’ll help fell individual trees to make the area safe.
- You’ll prune blackberry bushes and remove invasive non-native plants so that native plants can thrive again.
- You’ll assist with any necessary repairs to wooden structures and fences to ensure the grounds remain winter-ready and intact.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity you don't need any German skills.
A good physical constitution, manual skills and enjoyment of outdoor work are an advantage.
What to bring
Please wear weather-appropriate clothing that can get dirty, as well as long pants and sturdy shoes. Also, remember to bring rain gear or sun protection. Equipment will be provided on site.

The Kinderwald Hannover is a 7-hectare site in Hanover, which was and is developed according to the ideas of children and young people.
For schools and daycare centers as well as families and during the vacations, there are a variety of offers on the theme of experiencing nature with all the senses. In addition, groups come to the Children's Forest to help with the care and maintenance of the grounds.
